BAM's What is Week: Wiki
Wiki: a web application that allows anyone visiting a website to edit content on it. If you use the internet, you are bound to come across it one way or another. A 'Wiki' website is a user generated, editable, knowledge database of some sort. The most popular of course being Wikipedia. The word 'Wiki' means quick or fast in Hawaiian. So, put 'Wiki' in front of any suffix, and you have a quick, online forum. The suffix 'pedia' makes it an online, editable encyclopedia, and the word 'how' makes it an online, editable manual. You can use a Wiki to find information, upload information, and even increase visibility for yourself or your company. You can go to Wikipedia and create a searchable definition of your name, your dog, the street you live on, or even you. Wikipedia has 78 million visitors monthly. Users go to Wikipedia for 'quick' information, not to be marketed to. The point of creating content on Wikipedia and other Wiki resources is to provide factual information. If you plan on providing information about yourself or your company, the rules state that you need to be neutral and provide verifiable sources. By objectively contributing content about yourself or your company, you can increase your search engine ranking. You can also link to reputable sources (i.e. webpages, news) that provides verifiable information to the curious user. All you have to do is create and account, and write.
